Art & Design

At Tor Bridge Primary School, we believe Art and Design gives all pupils the opportunity to express themselves through creativity and imagination. Our aim is to develop and nurture our pupil’s enthusiasm for the creative arts and see it is as not only an enjoyable activity, but also a career aspiration. Pupils learn to explore and generate ideas, acquire skills and apply judgement through a hands-on exploratory approach. Pupils develop their knowledge and understanding, as well as their skills, through specific teaching as well different links across the curriculum. Pupils learn about the world of art including: artists and designers from different times and cultures. Children in our Reception classes develop a love of art through their imaginative play as well as through guided sessions. Moving into KS1 and KS2, children learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and sculpture. Children will be introduced to a range of relevant works and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by famous artists.

To draw on a quote, in this case from Don Miguel Ruiz: ‘Every human is an artist.’
